Meg

Office Manager

I am here to make sure your experience at our practice is top notch. I am always available to discuss finances, set up your next appointment and answer any questions regarding treatment! After studying at the University of Southern Maine, I was interested in combining my love of working one-on-one with people with finance. Dr. Shems has been a wonderful leader and a great role model for me. Her conservative philosophy transcends through her work; a decision is always made with the patient’s best interest at heart.

I live in Portland with my wonderful husband, Scott and our two daughters. We like to spend all of our free time enjoying the great outdoors!

Orthodontic Assistant and Clinical Supervisor

Working alongside Dr. Shems for the past six years has been wonderful. She always asks our patients about their lives and actually cares about their response. Her approach to orthodontics is conservative, which I think parents really appreciate. It is really easy to feel good about the decisions Dr. Shems makes and proudly stand behind them.

I have two children, Taylor and Nick, and a dog named Vinny. Taylor is a nutrition major at SMCC and works at World Gym. Nick is currently a junior at Boston College and plays baseball for them. I spend my free time with my family and friends and I love the summer in Maine! My favorite activities are being on the lake, waterskiing, and boating.

Clinical Assistant and Lab Technician

I became a huge fan of orthodontics when I found myself as an orthodontic patient! I realized the positive impact that having a great smile had on my self-esteem. I wanted to be part of making others just as happy! I completed my dental training-assisting program in 1994 and have been on Dr. Shems’ team for more than eight years. I make all of our patients’ retainers and other appliances in our in-house lab and am also a trained orthodontic assistant. I love seeing the smile on a patient’s face when their braces come off!

When I am not in the office I can be found outside in the world geocaching! I love to snowshoe and snowmobile in the winter and in the summer, I kayak and bike, usually to find the next cache!

Shannon

Orthodontic Assistant

I graduated from Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and have 18 years of dental experience. It is my goal to walk our patients through any procedure with an upbeat, positive attitude. I love seeing the final product after treatment is done, but more than that, I love that we’ve restored self-confidence in someone by providing a brand-new, beautiful smile! We have an incredible team here. I find it admirable that Dr. Shems not only treats her patients like family, but cares about the community. She actively supports local causes and teams, especially if one of her patients requests sponsorship.

I enjoy spending my time outside of work with my husband, five children, and our dog! I love to watch and play sports with my family, it’s one of my favorite pastimes!

Jodi

Treatment Coodinator

In addition to being a Treatment Coodinator for Dr. Shems, I am also a dental hygienist. I hold a degree from the University of Maine at Orono and can provide clinical evaluations to check for periodontal disease. Orthodontics can be so life changing for so many! It is fulfilling and rewarding to be a part of this process on a daily basis.

I live in New Gloucester with my husband, Jeff and three children, Makenna, Ben, and Adam. I am very close with my family and spend much of my time with them.

Carolyn

Orthodontic Assistant

I love the thought of changing lives through orthodontics, and am so happy to be a part of that process here with Dr. Shems. Although I have only been here for two years, I am not new to the dental world. I have seven years of experience as a certified orthodontic assistant and am a trained lab technician. My transition here to Dr. Shems’ office has been truly amazing! With such as warm welcome, it didn’t take long to really feel like part of the family.

I am from Massachusetts but found myself living in Florida for 13 years, where I fell in love with orthodontics!
